The National Health Corps (NHC) is an AmeriCorps National Direct program funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS). We have a long, proud history, having provided dedicated service to underserved communities for over 12 years. The primary goals of the NHC are to increase access to health care services for underserved communities, to promote the health and safety of each NHC community, and to foster our members’ pursuit of health related careers and an ethic of service.
During the 2007‑2008 program year, 70 NHC members are serving at sites in Chicago, North Florida, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh. NHC members are hosted by community‑based health related programs and provide services such as health education, community outreach, health insurance and pharmaceutical assistance enrollment, and other supportive services aimed at increasing access to health services and health information.
