Position Summary
About the Position:
The School-Based Dental Program Assistant NHC Member will support oral health initiatives, including delivering oral health education and collecting data for the citywide oral health surveillance program for preschool, elementary, and middle school students. This data will help identify communities with varying levels of participation. The NHC Member will update program materials to improve accessibility and engagement. Additionally, the NHC Member will conduct classroom-based education sessions for students on nutrition, healthy eating habits, and overall wellness.
About the Host Site:
The San Francisco Department of Public of Health School Based Dental Program provides oral health services to over 8,000 children throughout the city with the fluoride varnish programs, State of California mandated kindergarten surveillance program, and sealants for 2nd and 5th graders.

Special Considerations
- Personal vehicles are not required for this position. The main office and schools are accessible via public transportation through multiple bus lines and BART.
- Significant Travel (more than 25%)
- The member will travel to schools in the SFUSD district.
- Dress Code: Jeans and sneakers may be worn provided they are clean and not torn or ripped. While in any clinical setting, closed toed shoes must be worn.
- The member will:
- Serve approximately 40 hours per week.
- Serve Monday-Friday from 8:00AM - 5:00PM.
Language Proficiency Requirements
- No language other than English is required.
- Proficiency and skill with Spanish, Cantonese, and/or Mandarin would be useful to the member to communicate with a wide range of people (administrators, teachers, parents, dentists, and children).
Criminal History Check Requirements Beyond NHC Standard Checks
- Upon Conditional Acceptance of an NHC Position, all NHC members must complete TrueScreen Background Checks and NHC Required Health Exam to be formally placed in the NHC Program.
- No additional Background Checks or Health Exams beyond what is required of NHC Members will be conducted.
