Position Summary

The Pantry Client Liaison will be building relationships with the clients as they come in by explaining the sign in system (preferably in the client's native language). They will be educating the clients on the food available and what it might compare to in their own ethnic foods. The member will translate food items into another language onto signage that can be posted for clients to read. The member will be able to educate staff on how to say the food items in the clients language to better understand what they are in need of. The member will create recipes to give to all clients to try and promote low sodium, gluten free, low fat recipes. The member can print the recipes to share with clients so they can learn how to cook with the foods given out and how to better budget for food by using the pantry.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Engaging in outreach and promoting health education topics and healthcare services

Collaborating with pre-existing patients and partner organizations

Creating healthcare and wellness educational materials

Doing healthy cooking demonstrations

Providing nutritional education for visiting clients.

Observing barriers and coming up with strategies to incorporate ethnic food education into relationships with staff

Listening to the needs of the community using the pantry

Helping to close gaps to create equity in the service provided.

Writing skills

Knowledge Required for the Position

Knowledge of AmeriCorps/Health Corps member requirements and  skills with Microsoft Office or other software for a variety of data processing operations involving a range of problem solving, record keeping, correspondence, and service tracking options.

Supervision

Member uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments following set procedures, independently. The supervisor assigns service activities, advises on changes in procedures, and is available for assistance when required.

Review

Completed projects are reviewed very generally to determine that objectives have been met and are in compliance with policies and regulations.

Guidelines

Most instructions are easily memorized and require little interpretation

Language Proficiency Requirements

Minimum Professional Proficiency: Able to speak the language with sufficient structural accuracy and vocabulary to participate effectively in most formal and informal conversations on practical, social, and professional topics.

Minimum Professional Proficiency: Able to read standard newspaper items addressed to the general reader, routine correspondence, reports, and technical materials in the individual’s special field.
