Your NHC member will also collaborate with your staff to design targeted capacity-building activities that can transform systems and create lasting impact. What Can Members Do?

NHC members serve full-time for 42–52  weeks (1,700 hours), and live in the communities they serve. Ideal host sites include community health centers, youth-focused organizations, food banks, wellness coalitions, local health departments, and nonprofits.

Examples of service activities:

  • Conduct health education and outreach.
  • Support screenings, referrals, and case management.
  • Assist with vaccination drives and testing events.
  • Help with enrollment in health insurance, food access, or social services.
  • Lead workshops and one-on-one health coaching.

  • Public health and professional development training.
  • Specialized certifications (e.g., CHW, Digital Health Navigator, Medical Interpreter).
  • Direct support from NHC staff throughout the service year.
How to Become an NHC Host Site Partner

We’ll help you succeed to:

  • Provide a supportive environment, tools, and guidance for members.
  • Assign a qualified site supervisor.
  • Collaborate with NHC to design a workplan for your member (including 15% of their time focused on transforming systems).
  • Participate in check-ins, reporting, and member evaluations.

Becoming an NHC host site partner involves the following steps: 

  • Apply to host a member.
  • Create a service position description with NHC support.
  • Meet your matched member.
  • Start transforming community health together!
  • Service Term: 42-52 weeks (1,700 or 900 hours)
  • Cost: Low host site contribution (supplemented by NHC funding).
