Position Summary

The purpose of this project is to improve food access for WIC participants and to educate them about using their WIC benefits through group classes.

Major duties include:
--Canvas target areas to assess food access for WIC participants
--Create social media posts to advertise project
--Identify stores as potential WIC stores in targeted areas
--Create lessons for group classes in-person or via TEAMs for shopping with WIC benefits
--Conduct group classes for shopping with WIC benefits
--Work with stores to provide tours to WIC participants
--Complete a community needs assessment for shopping access
--Conduct food demonstrations--Will make recipes using WIC foods and provide samples to participants along with providing recipes.
--Provide WIC enrollment information if questions arise during store events.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Engaging in outreach and promoting health education topics and healthcare services
  • Identifying hosts and sponsors in various communities to form new partnerships
  • Facilitating and conducting healthcare and wellness trainings and classes
  • Planning and preparing classes
  • Coordinating with food access programs

Knowledge Required for the Position

  • Knowledge of AmeriCorps/Health Corps member requirements,
  • Skill with Microsoft Office or other software for a variety of data processing operations involving a range of problem solving, record keeping, correspondence, and service tracking options.

Supervision

  • Member uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments following set procedures, independently.
  • The supervisor assigns service activities, advises on changes in procedures, and is available for assistance when required.

Review

Completed projects are reviewed very generally to determine that objectives have been met and are in compliance with policies and regulations.

Guidelines

Guidelines are generally applicable, but the member independently makes adaptations in dealing with problems and unusual situations

Complexity

The member must develop new techniques, methods, or approaches to complete service position assignments.

Special Considerations

  • Unusual service hours, involving evenings, weekends, or long shifts,
  • Personal vehicle required,
  • Significant travel (more than 25%),
  • Criminal history check requirements beyond those required by National Health Corps

Language Proficiency Requirements

Proficiency in a language other than English is NOT required.

Criminal History Check Requirements Beyond NHC Standard Checks

The WIC program requires PA Criminal Background Checks, Child Abuse History, and FBI Fingerprinting Background Checks.
