Position Title:
Opioid Use Care Coordinator
Where are you from?
I was born in Quezon City in the Philippines. But in 2004 I immigrated to the United States where I lived most of my life at Lathrop, California. I did enjoy a short stint living at Davis California for university. There I discovered my love for medicine, science, and teaching.
Why did you decide to join NHC?
I resonate with NHC’s mission to improve lives and communities; which I find parallels my own personal goals serving as an educator and EMT. I wish to combine my desire to make lasting meaningful change in people’s lives with my love for teaching and medicine through NHC’s public outreach programs. Where I strive to bring healthcare to under-served communities with the same spirit that comforted me when I was younger.
What are you hoping to gain or learn during your service term?
Through NHC I wish to gain experience practicing a holistic approach to health care. Before I thought medicine was practiced inside a cold room in a hospital. But I learned that the kind of medicine I want to practice occurs outside the walls of a clinic and onto the community. I know my experiences here will give me advantageous skills and knowledge that I can carry into my career in health care.
What are you most looking forward to during your service term?
During my service term I am looking forward to creating lasting bonds with my fellow NHC members. Where I hope we have lots of adventures and opportunities to explore the food and boba in the area. The best part in being a team is seeing all of us collectively grow as a person.
