Reflections from a year of service with the PHC:

In 3 words, describe your AmeriCorps service year.

sweet. sour. rewarding.

What was your most memorable AmeriCorps moment?

My most memorable moment during AmeriCorps was our training day with Prevention Point--a Pittsburgh needle exchange program. I remember that our member discussion got pretty heated and illuminated very different opinions. It caused us all to take a step down from our proverbial soapbox, and remember that the key to any successful dialogue starts with respect.

What advice would you give current members as they plan for their life after AmeriCorps?

Life has its own plan, so don't get your heart set on any one thing. Simply prepare to be open to whatever comes your way next.

Your favorite quote about service

“I slept and I dreamed that life is all joy. I woke and I saw that life is all service. I served and I saw that service is joy.” ― Kahlil Gibran

Life after AmeriCorps:

What are you up to now?

I'm pursuing my MPH degree in Environmental and Occupational Health at Emory University--Rollins School of Public Health and currently researching agricultural water quality and conservation.

Did your AmeriCorps experience have any influence on what you are doing today?

Absolutely! My experience with the PHC not only provided an incredible environment for growth and learning through service, but also connected me with a network of young-advocates and professionals that inspired me to pursue a career in the public health field.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself.

My man proposed at a Red Hot Chili Peppers concert...of course, I said YES!
