Humans of NHC: Camila Urbieta
Megumi Yamamoto discusses career pathways and their host site with Camila Urbieta, her partner NHC member at Livingston Community Health.
What initially interested you about your current career path/profession? Why?
Since childhood, I’ve wanted to make a positive impact on people's lives. While the desire to become a doctor has always lingered in the back of my mind, stepping into the role as a community health specialist has made my future as a physician clearer. As a community health specialist, I serve as both an advocate and mediator, filling in the gap between individuals and the resources essential for their well-being. Whether it's connecting community members with vital healthcare services, addressing the barriers that impede access to care, or helping reduce language barriers. I am determined in my commitment to ensuring that no one is left behind in their journey of health and wellness.
Do you like serving at Livingston Community Health?
Serving at Livingston Community Health has become so much more—it's a deeply enriching experience that has allowed me to make meaningful connections with the community. I have come to really know some of the community members there to the point that I have been invited to their family gatherings! Moreover, the employees at LCH have been remarkable and very supportive in my role.
