Educational Background: B.S. Neuroscience from Allegheny College

What is your role at your host site? I am the Healthy Start Projects and Care Coordinator where I will serve directly with pregnant women to help them develop healthy habits during pregnancy and after their babies are born. I am involved in teaching parenting classes in the community and also facilitating a parenting support group with incarcerated women at the Baker County jail.

Why did you join AmeriCorps/National Health Corps? I  joined National Health Corps, AmeriCorps Program because I wanted to take a year off before starting graduate school. I am excited to have an opportunity to fill this time helping others while also gaining experience in the healthcare field.

What are you hoping to gain from your year of service? I am hoping to get out of my comfort zone, learn about others’ perspectives, and make new friends! Through serving I hope to help others and further develop humility and empathy. Finally, I wish to gain a better understanding of healthcare system and about what it would be like to work as a healthcare professional.

What are your plans for after AmeriCorps Service? I hope to become a Physician Assistant and attend a PA program after AmeriCorps.

Where do you envision yourself in 5 years? I hope to be working as a Physician Assistant.
