What is your title and role at your host site? Health Educator

Why did you join AmeriCorps/National Health Corps? I served as an AmeriCorps VISTA in my hometown for my first term and loved the experience and structure that AmeriCorps offered in the form of in-service learning. However it made me realize that I wanted to return to direct service; I am passionate about health and food, and want to help build healthy kids; healthy families; healthy communities.

What are you hoping to gain from your year of service? I want to gain more experience with public health education, and to enjoy a year of service in a new place!

What are your plans after AmeriCorps service? I’m looking into Teach for America as well as potential grad school programs within the public health/education realm; I haven’t decided yet.

Where do you envision yourself in 5 years? I hope to co-create a holistic health education retreat center that enriches community through instilling sustainable health practice amongst low-income populations; welcome to people from all walks of life. I also hope to be something like a “doctor without borders” but through the use of art therapy and nutrition as my primary medicine.
