Where are you from? (please answer this question using whatever definition you wish - where you were born, where you grew up, where you lived before NHC, the place you consider your home, etc.)

I’m from the Central Valley, born and raised in Merced, CA.

Are you a Student?  If so, where and what are you studying?

I am a recent graduate from CSU Stanislaus located in Turlock, CA. I got my Bachelor of Science degree in biology. I am currently still taking additional courses to pursue an education in the health industry with an emphasis on working in low-income communities.

Why did you decide to join NHC?

I decided to join NHC because of their community outreach and bringing focus on communities that deal with health disparities. Where I lived and how I grew up witnessing health disparities first person made me want to help the communities who has struggled due to health disparities and shortage in healthcare professionals. I wanted to know more ways that I can be able to help these communities while developing personal and professional growth that emphasizes on helping these communities. My experience in volunteering for non-profit organizations has continued to motivate me to work, volunteer, and serve in these underserved communities that focuses on the improvement of providing outreach and education.

What are you hoping to gain or learn during your service term?

During my service term with NHC Central Valley, I hope to gain hands-on experience in public health and community outreach. I want to strengthen my understanding of how health systems work and how to effectively connect individuals and families to the resources they need. I’m also hoping to improve my communication, leadership, and advocacy skills while learning from other passionate individuals and professionals in the field.

What are you most looking forward to during your service term?

I am most looking forward to working directly with the community members and health professionals in making meaningful connections. I am also excited to collaborate with other NHC members, learn from their perspectives, and be part of a team that shares a strong commitment to health equity and service.
