Where are you from? I’m originally from Yemen and spent most of my life in Saudi Arabia before moving to California in 2021. I’m currently a student at UC Merced, majoring in Biological Sciences with a minor in Psychology.
Why did you decide to join NHC? I joined NHC because I’m passionate about health equity and helping underserved communities. As an immigrant who experienced the challenges of navigating the healthcare system without guidance, I understand how overwhelming it can be. I want to be a support system for others and develop into a compassionate healthcare professional who understands both the clinical and community sides of care.
What are you hoping to gain or learn during your service term? I hope to gain hands-on experience in public health and patient education, strengthen my communication and advocacy skills, and build a deeper understanding of how social factors impact access to care. These are experiences that I know will shape the kind of doctor I aspire to become.
What are you most looking forward to during your service term? I’m looking forward to forming meaningful connections—with patients, fellow members, and mentors—while contributing to a team that values service and inclusion. I’m excited to grow personally and professionally in a space that allows me to learn, serve, and make a lasting impact
