Position Title:

Opioid/Substance Use Disorder Access Coordinator

Where are you from?

San Ramon, CA (East Bay)

Why did you decide to join NHC?

During the COVID-19 pandemic, volunteering and working with organizations for the underserved has further exposed me to the health disparities that persist within our communities and the barriers to healthcare for vulnerable populations. Becoming more cognizant of these barriers has influenced me to pursue a position where I can actively aid individuals by alleviating their suffering and improving their quality of life. I wanted to join NHC because it will help me expand my public health knowledge, provide an immersive public health experience, and further my understanding of health disparities and the systems that cause them.

What are you hoping to gain or learn during your service term?

Serving at an integrated care center like HealthRIGHT 360, I am hoping to learn how the nuances of healthcare and overall wellbeing intersect with one another. I am also keen on learning how to address and help eliminate the opioid crisis that I have seen persist growing up in the Bay Area.

What are you most looking forward to during your service term?

During my service term, I am most looking forward to reconnecting with the community I consider home and truly exploring and appreciating the diverse cultures, backgrounds, and people in the Bay. I am also excited to delve into the lives of San Franciscans and serve with my fellow NHC members to better grasp how to best help the community.
