What is your title and role at your host site?
I will be serving as an Outreach Coordinator where I will be providing community outreach to social service organizations, community leaders, and the medical community about the services that the center provides.
Why did you join the National Health Corps Florida AmeriCorps program?
I joined this program because I want to begin my career in the non-profit sector of the health field. I’ve always wanted to serve in AmeriCorps since I was in high school, and I really wanted to take a gap year between going to graduate school so I can serve and give back to the community.
What are you hoping to gain from your year of service?
During my year of service, I hope to gain a better understanding of the hearing and speech field and all it entails. I want to give back to the community. I also want to learn more about non-profit health organizations and their role in patient care and services.
What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?
After my AmeriCorps service, I plan on going back to school to get my Master’s in Social work so I can become an outpatient therapist.
Where do you envision yourself in 5 years?
In five years, I envision myself having my Masters in Social work and working in the mental and behavioral health field as a therapist.
