Educational background: B.S. in Biology and Society, Minor in Global Health from Cornell University

What is your title and role at your host site?

I will be a Patient Support Specialist on Squirrel Hill Health Center’s mobile medical unit.

Why did you join AmeriCorps/National Health Corps?

Serving others is an important part of my identity, and so I have known for a long time that I wanted to participate in a service program of some kind after graduating from college. When I discovered NHC, it seemed like a wonderful fit. I care deeply about helping to eradicate health inequalities, both around the world and within my own communities. NHC’s focus on populations that most need to be connected with healthcare services aligns perfectly with my goals. I could not be more excited for my year with NHC!

What are you hoping to gain from your year of service?

I am hoping that this year will allow me to gain real life, hands-on experience with working with underserved populations. I am also hoping to learn from patients on the mobile unit, the staff at Squirrel Hill Health Center, and my fellow NHC members about how we can best work together to improve health access and outcomes.

What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?

After Americorps, I plan to work in public health for a year while applying to medical school.

Where do you envision yourself in 5 years?

In five years, I hope to be entering my final year of medical school and applying to residency programs!
