Educational background: B.S. in Public Health and dual major in Professional Spanish from Slippery Rock University

What is your title and role at your host site?

I will be a Health Educator at the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. I will be working within the community to provide nutritional guidance and education to a wide range of individuals and groups.

Why did you join AmeriCorps/National Health Corps?
I joined AmeriCorps/National Health Corps so that I could serve and educate my local community and reduce health disparities in the Pittsburgh area. I also felt that being a part of this program would allow me to truly be a part of something bigger, something that would benefit both the people I work with every day and my professional goals to serve my neighbors anywhere I can.

What are you hoping to gain from your year of service?

I am hoping to delve into the professional world of public health and gain experiences that will allow me to better serve my community, wherever that may be. I hope to learn more about Pittsburgh’s needs and how they represent larger-scale health disparities.

What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?

After my year of service, I intend to go back to school to further my Public Health education. I plan to earn a Doctorate in Public Health as well as a degree in nursing.

Where do you envision yourself in 5 years?

Hopefully done with school and starting a full-time Public Health career!
