Madeline Barnes

Educational background: B.S. in Community Health from the University of Maryland

What is your title and role at your host site?

Health Educator at the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.

Why did you join AmeriCorps/National Health Corps?

I wanted to take part in a year of service specifically focused on reducing health inequities, and making quality healthcare more accessible to all. Talking with alums, serving under National Health Corps sounds like the perfect opportunity to make positive impacts and meaningful contributions to a community, while developing professional skills and furthering my knowledge.

What are you hoping to gain from your year of service?

I am hoping to gain more experience in the field, to narrow my focus and gain valuable professional skills. I am also hoping to develop a better understanding of the core public health issues our nation is facing today.

What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?

I plan to apply to graduate school, possibly to obtain my Masters in Public Health, or Health Administration.

Where do you envision yourself in 5 years?

Hopefully pursing a career that I love in the field of public health!
