Educational background: BS in Biology and a certificate in Global Health from UW-Madison
Birmingham Free Clinic
What is your title and role at your host site?
I’m a Patient Care Navigator with the Program for Health Care to Underserved Populations
Why did you join AmeriCorps/National Health Corps?
I decided to join AmeriCorps because service is something I’ve always been extremely passionate about. I just graduated in May and felt like this would be the perfect time in my life to devote my time and efforts to helping others and helping ensure people have healthy futures.
What are you hoping to gain from your year of service?
I’m just hoping to learn as much as I can this year. There are so many opportunities here in Pittsburgh that I’m so excited to take advantage of so I can broaden my understanding of health and how it looks in different populations. My time at Birmingham Free Clinic will definitely expose me to lots of new perspectives and I know I will learn a lot from our patients and providers.
What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?
After AmeriCorps, I am planning to attend graduate school to pursue a Master’s degree in Public Health.
Where do you envision yourself in 5 years?
In 5 years, no matter what I’m doing, I hope that I am still promoting health and advocating for others. Ideally, I would be using my Master’s degree in Public Health and doing this in whatever job I end up getting!
