Why did you join National Health Corps?
I joined the National Health Corps to gain direct experience in the healthcare field while building long-term relationships with the populations I would like to focus on in my career.
What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?
I hope to continue being involved in the healthcare field, and I am excited to explore my options during my service term to determine the next steps of my career.
Tell us about an employment, service, or research experience that was important to you.
My greatest service experience was my involvement with Camp Kesem, a national non-profit organization that provides support to children who have been affected by a parent's cancer. Throughout the school year, I worked with a group of incredible college students to fundraise, recruit volunteers, reach out to community members, and plan a week long camp for kids in the Central Valley of California. The kids that I met and interacted with at camp are some of the strongest and most fun people that I have ever met, and I am so excited to see the kids and the organization grow every summer.
What first sparked your interest in community service?
When I was younger, my mom used to take me to volunteer events around Fresno, and I loved them so much that I continued to do them on my own throughout high school and college. Her love for service and her community really influenced my interest in being civically engaged.
What about Philadelphia excites you the most?
I am excited to experience a big city with an incredible historical background. Also, I am looking forward to a 'real winter' and snow!
What is your favorite food?
I love burgers! There are so many varieties!
