I wanted to spend a year engaging with the community prior to medical school, and I thought that the NHC program would be a great opportunity to serve underserved populations while getting a behind-the-scenes look at the healthcare system.

Why did you join the National Health Corps Florida AmeriCorps program?
I wanted to spend a year engaging with the community prior to medical school, and I thought that the NHC program would be a great opportunity to serve underserved populations while getting a behind-the-scenes look at the healthcare system.

What are you hoping to gain from your year of service?
I hope to become more aware of the inequalities in the healthcare system and the barriers that patients face in accessing and completing treatment.  I also hope to become more empathetic and sensitive to patients’ concerns.

What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?
I hope to attend medical school after National Health Corps.

Where do you envision yourself in 5 years?
Hopefully, I will be in the last year of medical school and matched into a residency.
