Educational background:

Bachelors of Science in Health Studies

Host Site:

Tobacco Free Jacksonville

What is your title and role at your host site?
I will be a health educator and program facilitator responsible for coordinating activities for the Duval County SWAT clubs. I will also be serving with area schools and after-school youth community programs on tobacco prevention education and youth leadership skill building.

Why did you join the National Health Corps Florida AmeriCorps program?
After finishing my undergraduate degree, I really wanted to do something that combined my passion for health and community service. I had many friends who had done Americorps and loved it, and after a lot of research NHC seemed like the perfect fit for me. Growing up in a low-income community myself it was important to me to work and give back to those who needed it the most. I also loved the variety of both sites and positions that NHC offered.

What are you hoping to gain from your year of service?
By the end of my service year I hope to have improved both my leadership and professional skills. I also hope to gain motivation and confidence to keep working and creating change in the health care world.

What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?
After AmeriCorps I plan on going to graduate school to pursue a degree in Public Health with a concentration on Epidemiology.

Where do you envision yourself in 5 years?
Having a masters degree, growing within my career, while creating positive change in the global health field.
