I decided to join the National Health Corps program instead of NCCC because I wanted to gain more experience working with public health since I plan on pursuing a career in that field.
Educational background: Bachelor’s of Science Degree In General Biology from the University of TampaHost Site: Barnabas Medical Discharge
I will be the Americorps Care Coordinator with Barnabas Medical Discharge during the 2019/2020 term of service. My role with this host site will be to meet patients in the primary care program and assist them with discharge planning education. The discharge planning education will include, lab work education and diagnostic testing education. I will also be providing resources to the patients, such as food pantry access, SNAP benefits, public transportation, and library access. Additionally, I will be connecting and referring clients to other programs in the area as needed, like Starting Point Behavioral Health and the Wellness Coordinator.
At the time of my application, I was serving with the Americorps NCCC program. I really enjoyed my time serving with Americorps which inspired me to apply for another year with the program. I decided to join the National Health Corps program instead of NCCC because I wanted to gain more experience working with public health since I plan on pursuing a career in that field.
I hope to gain experience working in the public health field and to network with various health non-profits in the North Florida area. I would also like to make connections with the people in the Jacksonville community and those in the NHC program.
I plan to be working in the public health field, specifically with a non-profit in the State of Florida. I also plan to earn a Master’s Degree in Public Health, most likely through the University of South Florida.
In five years I plan on having my Masters Degree in public health and to be working in the public health field.
