What is your title and role at your host site?
As a Health Educator, I will be implementing and leading programs that will educate elementary students on the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. To do this, I will create lesson plans focusing on the importance of physical activity, nutrition, and healthy habits. The programming will greatly impact the health of youth in the local community.

Why did you join the National Health Corps Florida AmeriCorps program?
I joined the NHC Florida Americorps program because I wanted to make a meaningful difference in a community during my time off from school. I have a passion for positive health education, awareness, and change and I knew the NHC would help me achieve those things. Additionally, I wanted to learn more about health disparities in another part of the country and become part of a community dedicated to high-impact change.

What are you hoping to gain from your year of service?
I hope to gain valuable knowledge about positive health practices for youth, while strengthening my professional, leadership, and communication skills. Additionally, I hope to gain unique experiences in the public health field that will enable to confidently move forward in my next step after the NHC.

What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?
After my time with Americorps, I plan to matriculate into an occupational therapy program.

Where do you envision yourself in 5 years?
In five years, I envision myself working as an occupational therapist and impacting the lives of others in positive ways. Also, I hope to be on a career track that furthers my education and allows me to implement health policy, practice, and system changes in the United States.
